Dr. Md. Aminul Islam
Dr. Md. Aminul Islam is a distinguished scientist and academic with a prolific career in the field of hydrogen energy, specializing in photocatalysis and renewable energy. He currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering at Jashore University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. Dr. Islam’s academic journey began from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, followed by an MPhil in Materials Science from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2008. He completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University Malaysia Sabah in 2011 and continued his postdoctoral research at the Catalysis and Science Research Center, University Putra Malaysia from 2012 to 2015. He was a faculty member of the department of Chemical Engineering from 2015-2017, University Malaysia Sabah , Malaysia.
Dr. Islam’s research is at the forefront of developing innovative strategies for synthesizing nanoparticles aimed at generating hydrogen energy from water through photocatalysis. His work emphasizes understanding the mechanisms of photocatalysts in solar-driven water splitting, a key process for hydrogen production. This eco-friendly approach has the potential to mitigate the global energy crisis and support environmental conservation efforts. Currently, his research focuses on bottom-up techniques of hydrogen fuel cell research and to create photocatalysts for CO2 hydrogenation into renewable fuels.
In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Islam has extensive industrial experience, served as a consultant and senior research and development scientist. Dr. Islam’s contributions to science have been widely recognized. He is listed among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University from 2019 to 2022 and was acknowledged as a highly cited researcher which rank in the top 1% by citation according to the Web of Science™ in 2022. He has received numerous accolades for his inventions, including gold and silver medals from University Putra Malaysia and University Malaysia Sabah.
Dr. Islam has authored 130 high-quality peer-reviewed journal articles and four influential books, including “Biodiesel Production with Green Technologies” and “Advanced Technologies in Biodiesel.” His innovative work led to the patent “Water to Hydrogen Fuel Production Using Rice Husk Catalyst,” showcasing his ability to translate research into practical applications.
As an active member of the scientific community, Dr. Islam serves on editorial boards and has supervised numerous MPhil and PhD students, fostering the next generation of researchers. His invited talks and keynote speeches at international conferences further underscore his influence and leadership in the field. Dr. Md.
